Default Lace painting?

A friend of mine insists that doing a lace design paint on the roof of my 1954 Chevy is the way to go. I have not seen any good depictions of what this actually looks like; the only pictures I've found all look very gaudy. Does anyone have pictures of a custom paint job with lace that is SUBTLE and not atrocious?

Also, has anyone ever done a lace paint job themselves, and if so, do you have any advice/tips/etc.?

Thanks!

Here is the one I painted on my old falcon longroof. We used a different patten on this roof and it made a huge difference to the look. and the other one is also a falcon I took a pics of from the chopped weekend here in Oz, Just some ideas.

I really like the fade out on that blue Falcon though the scallops are a bit much for my car. I like the look of the other Falcon too because its really subtle in the color change. The design on the Caddy is my favorite. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do as far as paint but I think the lace painting might be a little out of my 54's era. Thanks for all the pics .

in my opinion a 54 shouldnt have lace unless its blende in with a panel paintjob. The trick to it is to get the lace real tight over the area its bein painted and keep the air pressure low on your gun

I love the lace. It's a hard thing to pull off sometmes. The rest of the paint and overall style of the car can make it or brake it. It can get over done real fast. Do your research.

Your 54 might look good with a flaked solid bottom half and 2 simple panles in a differant color for the roof in a contrasting color like that falcon.

I think you posted a pic of a side by side with another 54/3 a while back. I think that is what I'm useing as a referance.

If your friend is going to do it for you for free you can't beat that. You can always paint it again if you don't like it.
